creative engineering project
This is my groups creative engineering project. For this project we had to find a way to solve a world problem. We did not have a problem finding a world problem, in fact we found many. We wanted to focus on a problem that we where really interested in. Our idea was to be able to reduce pollution, deforestation, extinction and cattle use. To do this we had to think of a way that would help all of these areas and still be good for the environment. We first searched up tons of facts about our problems. We learned so much! After researching the problems we realized that these are all problems that we wouldn't be able to stop, but make a substitution for. We then brainstormed things we could to replace these. The next thing we did was look up aquaponics. We realized that this could be an easy solution. An aquaponic is like a farm above water. Aquaponics are essentially the combination of Aquaculture and Hydroponics. The most simple definition is that it is the marriage of aquaculture (raising fish) and hydroponics (the soil-less growing of plants) that grows fish and plants together in one integrated system. The fish waste provides an organic food source for the growing. The plants provide a natural water filter for the fish.
project history
As we began researching our project we split up and found information for different things. We researched deforestation, extinction, pollution , the cattle industries, and aquaponics. We found out tons of information on all of these subjects. Humans cut down trees, which pollutes the air because they use machinery to cut down trees to make room for agricultural. By destroying the forest we are also killing the animals that inhabit the rainforest. This has made large numbers of species to go extinct. We figured an aquaponic is a great way to help reduce all of these things. We figured these can be built over lakes, ponds, rivers, or any fresh body's of water. Small docks would be set up over the body of water with netting attached. Different types of plants would grow over the netting. It would be fertilized by the fish in the water. The fish could also be eaten so you are using every aspect of this invention. Two not so good things about this project is one, we had so little time to build and that we learned everything so fast. two things that where good was learning about ways to make energy efficient things and how to make something out of a natural resource. I learned a lot from this project on how I can make a difference on world problems.
